First time taking Courtney's Visual Development class. Very very tough for me! I had to build a simple model of the scene to figure out the lighting. And because of lack of sleep and time issue, I worked on these paintings in one night. They are not very good but I proud of it because I've learnt so much from this assignment.

"No Robots" early city concept/ Backgrounds pencil & finished
"No Robots" is a short animated film done by a small group of Animation/illustration students in San Jose State University. The production of the film began and finished in summer 2010. I had a chance to work on the backgrounds of the film. Pencil and painted by myself, Color Key by my friend /director Kimberly Knoll.
We put a lot of efforts and hours into this film!
(update) The film eventually won several awards on student film category! Here is the link to see the film from CartoonBrew website http://www.cartoonbrew.com/student/no-robots-by-yunghan-chang-and-kimberly-knoll.html

My digital painting #2
Visiting my friend's house in Santa Cruz and her house is right in the middle of a beautiful forest! Next day, after visited my friend, I got Oga Kazuo's artbook which is the collection of Kazuo's beautiful forest paintings. Those two inspired me!!! I think this piece is better than my last digital piece in term of mood and color.

Plein Air
It suppose to be rained in San Jose today. I went to the Alum Rock park for plein air but I'm lucky! it wasn't rain on the mountain! It took me almost 4 hours...I was trying to finish this painting but it was so cold up there and my hand was freezing, so I decided to stop. The painting isn't really finished, but I like it anyway. Done in acrylic in my sketchbook.

Story is out there!!!
Finally!!! considering my "first" finished digital painting! The shadow pattern on my T-rex should be better, but I don't have enough reference for the light.
I've been practiced digital painting for awhile but most of my painting were just very loose and never finished. This painting took me a while (roughly 18-20 hours). I've learnt tons from this painting. There're still more room for improvement. This one was drawn and painted from scratch in photoshop. Please feel free to give me comments or critics.
